The Best Remaining 2023 NFL Free Agents Available
Free agency is one of the defining parts of the NFL year that sets the tone for the season ahead. Look no further than last year’s Super Bowl, which featured the Rams and Bengals, and you’ll see two teams that made splash transactions in the offseason. This year’s free agency has been a wild ride. There have been massive signings, including teams like the Jaguars and Chargers getting big-ticket players for huge fees. But just because most of the biggest transactions have been done doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of dominos yet to fall. There are still a lot of talented players that remain on the market.
Fans and bettors keep a close eye on free agency because they know championships can be won with the right impact signings. NFL betting sites pay close attention to who every team invests in because it shows their aspirations for the season and sets the expectations for how they are likely to perform. With months before the season kicks off, some incredible players can still be signed that can transform a team’s trajectory. Let’s look at the best remaining NFL free agents.
Odell Beckham Jr.
There would be a lot more buzz about Odell Beckham if he wasn’t coming off a torn ACL, an injury that happened early in this year’s Super Bowl. The recovery time for this injury can be around a year, so there is a good chance Beckham won’t play next year. However, for a patient team, they could find a player capable of transforming their offense. Beckham rediscovered his form once he went to the Rams, including a postseason where he was a pivotal part of their run to the Super Bowl. He is still 29 and could have some good years left.
Julio Jones
If you had told the average NFL fan that Julio Jones would still be available this late into the offseason, even a year ago, most wouldn’t believe you. But that’s how bad his year was for the Tennessee Titans last season. He had 434 yards and one touchdown in ten games. It was the worst year of his career. However, Jones can still offer a lot to the right team. The year before last, he averaged 85.7 yards per game for the Falcons. While durability is a concern, he doesn’t have to be the guy anymore. He can still offer a great skillset and flashes of the old Julio.
Duane Brown
Finding a starting caliber offensive tackle this late in the offseason is very difficult. But that is what teams might be able to find in Duane Brown. Brown has been an excellent left tackle for much of his career, and while his best days are definitely behind him, that doesn’t mean he can’t offer a team some added size and skill at the position. He is going to be 37 years old before next season, which is borderline fossil-like in the NFL, but he is only one year removed from a pro bowl appearance. Getting this three-time All-Pro player would positively impact any offensive line.
Trey Flowers
It is a little surprising to see Trey Flowers still available. Flowers was released this offseason by the Lions, saving them a huge amount of money. The team had previously signed him to a whopping five-year, $90 million contract, and now he is waiting for a team to give him a chance. Flowers is a great run-stopping defensive end who also can get after the quarterback. In Detroit, he fell short of expectations. However, he is still a player that can start for most teams and is only 28 years old.
Ndamukong Suh
There was a time when Ndamukong Suh was a top-five defensive player in the NFL. While that time has come and gone, he can still add a lot of value. He has a championship pedigree and remains a strong interior pass rusher. He had six sacks in each of the last two seasons. While this is far removed from his peak, that is still a strong number from an interior lineman. On the right team, he could bring a strong motor and vicious rush from the inside and contribute to a better defense.
Rob Gronkowski
Rob Gronkowski, or Gronk, can still play. He is one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the sport, and while he isn’t getting any younger, last year showed that he can still have his way with a defense when he wants to. He had over 800 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last year, comfortably on pace for a 1,000-yard season. He is currently considering retirement and will likely only come back to play with Brady and the Buccaneers. But he is still one of the premier players at his position.
