UFC 279 date, start time, odds, schedule

Following pushback with the UFC on his potential opponents and contract, Nate Diaz might end with his toughest fight since joining the franchise. Diaz will face rising star Khamzat Chimaev on 10th September inside the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena. You can browse VN sports News for a full rundown of the fight.

Khamzat Chimaev is a 28-year-old three-time Swedish gold medalist who made his professional debut in 2018 before joining the UFC in 2020. The 28-year-old won three UFC fights in 2020 and has taken the MMA world by storm with his killer mindset and skills.

The Chechnya-born fighter suffered complications after being diagnosed with Covid-19, affecting multiple bouts between him and Edwards. Chimaev once considered retiring after coughing blood in 2020, before finally returning to action in October 2021. After returning to the UFC, the 28-year-old beat Li Jingliang through submission.

Chimaev’s last bout was through a unanimous decision over Gilbert Burns in April. However, despite his skills and age difference, Chimaev and his team aren’t looking to discredit Diaz’s ability to win the bout.

According to Chimaev’s head coach Andreas Michael, Nate Diaz is by no means an easy fight for the team. However, the fight is beneficial for Diaz no matter the outcome, as it must have taken a lot to convince him to take the fight against the Chechnya-born fighter.

Diaz made his professional debut in 2004 at the WEC before winning the 2007 edition of the Ultimate Fighter. Diaz ranks 14-11 in the UFC, competing against Donald Cerrone, Clay Guida, Gray Maynard, Jim Miller and Conor McGregor. The 37-year-old has lost his last two fights, with his last bout being against Leon Edwards at the 2021 UFC 263.
