ATP vs WTA: What’s the Difference? Men’s Tennis vs. Women’s Tennis
Compared to other team sports, tennis has become a professional relatively recently. Until 1968, only amateur tournaments were held. Naturally, no one thought about prize money then. However, the more popular tennis became with the audience, the more the organizers of the competition and various promoters began to pay attention to it. See current atp rankings here.
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) was founded in 1972 to protect the interests of professional tennis players. An analogue of the ATP in women’s tennis is the Women’s Tennis Association (in English Women’s Tennis Association, abbreviated as WTA), which was born a year later – in 1973.
Now these two associations are the organizers of a huge number of regular tennis tournaments in all corners of the globe – the ATP Tour and the WTA Tour. Wta rankings 2022 is on this site.
The only major tennis events in which the ATP and WTA have not yet launched their tentacles are the Grand Slam tournaments. They are still organized by functionaries from the ITF. Getting into the ATP and WTA roster is easy, but not particularly easy either. The main admission criterion is the current rating. Becoming a member of the association, the tennis player receives certain benefits. First, this is a variety of assistance before and during competitions, including insurance and medical services.
In fact, ATP and WTA are two huge corporations? making money on tennis and resembling open joint-stock companies in structure All key decisions in them are made by representatives chosen by the players.

Women’s tennis and men’s tennis in the professional field
The hesitation between two or three exciting games makes sense. So far only DSF has solved it optimally, but it was good. It seems that the women here were calling for equal rights on the air. By the way, it is no coincidence that ATP Super 9 tournaments can only be seen on pay TV, unlike WTA tournaments. Men’s tennis will always be different for genetic reasons, but women have caught up. Even with women’s singles, the half from no longer wins the game.
Equal rights
Why ladies get the same amount of prize money as men for 2 winning sets, especially in the first rounds, is not entirely clear. Equality, of course, is the main value of our time. However, many people don’t have much time. And in the time they spend playing tennis, they want to see the best, most exciting game possible. So simple.
Even in an article of the Basic Law, only the same thing should be treated equally. Of course, women are not men, but the performance that men have to show in the first and / or second round in order to get halfway, cannot be compared with women’s. On the positive side, women’s tennis has also become much more dynamic, with some women serving in such a way that the balls hit the other way correctly. This has not been the case for a long time.
But men’s tennis has grown significantly in the last 1 or 2 years. When you see the level of physical fitness of men, it’s just incredible. The performance is immediately visible. When a famous player says today that he is significantly better than when he was at his peak, it clearly shows where his journey is headed.
