New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has been “cleared to progress the game without restrictions upon his return,” according to a Pelicans statement.

With that, Pelicans fans have finally received the news they’ve been waiting for all year: Zion Williamson has been cleared to return to the game, the Pelicans announced Thursday.
Citing “continuous improvement” of his fifth metatarsal, it looks like Zion could return to the roster this October.
Basketball fans are already dreaming of next year’s lineup, which expects newcomers CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, Herb Jones and Williamson.

Unfortunately, the news comes a bit late in the season as the Pelicans headed into the postseason after a dismal start to the regular season. Had Zion returned a little sooner, it might have changed the dynamic of the Pelicans-Suns series, but it’s still an exciting development with the talented roster that New Orleans has built.
Pelicans Twitter basically has an online second line as they proudly parade around with the uplifting update.
This is also great news for Williamson in terms of his contract: he may be eligible for a rookie extension in July and now he can show the team where he really is and ideally land the contract his talent demands .
As a refresher, the last NBA game Zion Williamson played in was on May 4, 2021 against the Golden State Warriors. Williamson was out for the entire 2021-22 season with a foot injury, which was initially the case expected to heal by December. A delay in the recovery process prompted the team to send Williamson there continues his rehab in Oregon, which eventually allowed Williamson to successfully recover from an injury.
