The 2021 NFL draft class still keeps us guessing as to how likely they will all be to start quarterback in the years to come. None of them played particularly well, with Mac Jones leading through Patriot wins.
This year will be a defining year for all of them. Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are getting new coaches, Trey Lance is set up as starters and Mac Jones will look to take full command of the Patriots assault.
Then there’s Zach Wilson.
WynnBET currently have Wilson’s MVP odds lower than any other quarterback of the sophomore year. Wilson’s odds are +10000, while the other four are +7500. None of the remaining four defenders have particularly impressed, so why is Wilson expected to have his worst season?
I assume his odds are at their lowest because of the Jets’ poor roster. Through no fault of his own, the Jets have a terrible roster and are in a division with a Super Bowl contender. Wilson will have to beat Josh Allen this season and that’s the high that needs to be crossed.
Last season, Wilson had a record of 2,334 yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions. This has been a bad year. Courts finished with fewer touches than he did, but he was only a starter for more than half the season.
For Wilson to be able to join the conversation, he’ll have to double his yardstick and touchdown, which may be too large for the bar to require him to jump over.
Any bets on Wilson this season should be a bit salt and pass. He may not have had the worst season, but there’s not much that indicates he’s had a good one.
