Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Players Are Destroying Their Own Way Through New Event

Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel player is speeding through the current event by building decks that burn and lose as quickly as possible.

The XYZ Festival Event going live between now and February 14th, offering 2,000 Gems and over 30 legacy pack tickets to players who earn the maximum number of medals, which is 20,000. Initially, 50 medals were awarded to losers and 100 medals were awarded to winners. Instead of building a new deck for the event, as many decks in the current meta are banned from the event, players will destroy themselves instead.

Players assume they can crush event medals and max rewards faster by building self-burning decks. These decks contain spell and trap cards that require the payment of Life Points to use, so players can play hard on the first turn and lose instantly. The idea here is that about a minute of self-burn time is faster than spending 5-10 minutes actually playing the game. The game has a surrender option, but surrender negates all rewards, so the player must actually lose the duel.

The Master Duel subreddit To be fill with posts about self-burning decks, with most players finding the situation humorous. Some players are at night building reflective floors filled with cards that give their opponents Life Points, to try and prevent people from intentionally losing.

The situation got so bad that Konami updated the event reward. While everyone still earns 50 medals when they lose, winners will now get 500 medals instead of 100, making it much more rewarding to win. While some players will likely continue to self-destruct, this can be done to encourage people to actually play the event to win.
