The Phoenix Suns defeat was a win of sorts for Patrick Beverley – as he slammed his ‘beloved’ Chris Paul for a poor offensive lead against Luka Doncic. But Danny Green cleaned up the remains afterwards as he attempted to smack Beverley in the face of harsh reality with his comments.
After exiting the playoffs, Patrick Beverley appeared on various ESPN talk shows and offered his views on the post-season matchups. As fiery as Pat is on the pitch, he never shies away from making bold comments about the game, and even about a player. Beverley shot at Chris Paul after the Phoenix Suns were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in Game 7 of their conference semifinals. Patrick said the future Hall of Famer “literally can’t protect.” But Philadelphia 76ers guard Danny Green wasn’t sure about Patrick and thinks “Bev” has a foothold in his criticism of Chris Paul’s defense.
Green supported Chris Paul when he was on NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Inside the Green Room. Reminding Beverley that the Wolves lost 4-2 to the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs, Green said, “You don’t play a damn defense out there.”
Danny Green leaves no stone unturned as he destroys Patrick Beverley
Three-time NBA champion Danny Green has a very calm image on the court but is certainly a very competitive one. He is known for his long-range shots and fairness in full-back. But Danny let go while responding to Patrick Beverley’s comments.

“People are targeting you too, Pat Bev. You’re not playing a damn defense out there.” said Green. “You’re not stopping Luka [Doncic]. It’s not uncommon for Luka to call your ass “little man” and “he’s too small” and go straight for you at every opportunity. If you play Luka, you are also a skittle. how would you like that Bring that out, I’ll say it twice.”
Beverley had very critical comments about Phoenix’s loss, specifically targeting 12-time All-Star Chris Paul. “CP cannot guard anyone. … You know those little cones in the summer that you dribble around? What does the cone do? Nothing at all. He’s a cone.” said Beverly.
Green suggested Patrick Beverly was being unfair and that his comments were “the disrespectful…a bit far.” He also added that Beverley is clearly clinging to a “personal vendetta” against Paul. “I don’t mind certain people criticizing players, but you’re a role player, disrespecting a Hall of Famer is going too far.” he added. “Pat Bev, you’re not stopping Luka either. There aren’t many people on the planet stopping Luka.”
Danny wasn’t the only one upset with Beverly, as Kevin Durant also showed some support for Paul. So did Matt Barnes when he said: “People will talk about Chris Paul when he’s gone, but they won’t talk about us – role-players – when we’re gone.”
In reality, Paul and the team couldn’t stop Luka Doncic from draining basket after basket in the epic Game 7 showdown. But Paul was a member of 7 – all defensive 1st teams, while Beverley was a member of just one such team. As such, his comments on Chris might “take it a little too far” given the player’s performances in the discussion.
