Yankees re-sign Rob Brantly to strike small League deal

The Yankees have renewed the arrest contract Rob Brantly with a minor league contract, tweet The New York Post’s Joel Sherman. Presumably, Lagardere Sports customers will also be in a Major League camp when Spring Training begins.

Brantly, 32, has spent most of the 2021 season with Yankees affiliate Triple-A but has appeared in six major league games, during which time he has won three for 20 with a brace and four goals. He tallied 264 disc appearances in Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre, hitting .289 / .379 / .456 with nine hosts, nine doubles and threes.

The well-traveled Brantly has spent time with 10 organizations and witnessed Major League activities with 5 of them: the Marlins, White Sox, Phillies, Giants, and Yankees. However, he has never topped 243 appearances in a Major League season and hasn’t recorded more than 36 major league appearances since 2013. Overall, Brantly owns a .224 pass. / .287 / .324 in 453 appearances. as a leap athlete.

Brantly saw much more action and was much more effective in Triple-A, where he carried his entire life .266 / .319 / .395 in parts of nine seasons (2171 disc appearances) . He was eligible to sign a minor league contract during the lockout due to the fact that he did not end the 2021 season on a 40-man or Major League injured list.

Despite a bit of public debate among fans and pundits alike, the Yankees chose to bid for a contract to Gary Sánchez, positioning him to resume his role as the main point of support. Kyle Higashioka are preparing to assist Sanchez, but the Yankees do not have a third catcher on their 40-man roster and so need some depth.

Brantly may be just one of many final additions in that respect, but for now, he looks like the top replacement should Sanchez or Higashioka get injured during the 2022 season. Of course, all of those. that all assumes that the Yankees choose to stick with the status quo behind the table rather than continue to pursue alternative scenarios after the transaction freeze has been lifted.
