Yankees fans had words for Alex Cora and the Red Sox after leading Aaron Judge in his first two at-bats, just a home run away from tying Roger Maris.
Aaron Judge has 60 home runs. He needs one more to tie Roger Maris for AL one-year record.
The Red Sox don’t look like they’re going to give him a chance to get there.
The New York-Boston rivalry streak began Thursday night with Judge walking in each of his first two bats.
Yanks Fans booed pitcher Michael Wacha and the Red Sox in the stadium. On Twitter, they followed manager Alex Cora for his pre-game comments claiming his team would not bypass the MVP nominee.
Yankees fans condemn Red Sox for fear of Aaron Judge
Red Sox fans appear to agree with the walk strategy. At least it worked. Double plays ended the first and third innings after the judge left.
Richter is on a monster tear. You can’t exactly blame a team for pitching around them, especially when they’ve crushed so many pitchers this season.
However, the pursuit of history attracts many eyeballs. You can bet MLB would want to give Judge a chance to break or break the record, especially with Maris’ family at the ballpark.
Until the rest of the Yankee batters punish the Red Sox for it, they’ll keep making it hard for Judge to get a piece of anything. Getting him to the base is the least of her worries.
The good news for Judge and New York is that at some point someone has to give him something to hit. Then he will do his damage.
