WWE Day 1 2022 cards, matches, dates, rumors, match cards, predictions, start times, locations

WWE heads into 2022 looking for a strong start. After skipping a PPV event in December, the promotion will kick off New Year’s Day with a bang as it launches a new event called WWE Day 1. It all started at State Farm Arena. in Atlanta with nearly every champion in action.

There are four championship matches set for the current card, including Big E defending the WWE championship against Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley in deadly four-way action. On the women’s side, Becky Lynch will defend her Raw Women’s Championship against Liv Morgan.

As with all major WWE events, Day 1 will stream live on Peacock. The main pass will begin at 8 p.m. ET after the opening show an hour ago.

Let’s take a look back at what we know will happen at WWE Day 1.

Note: The previously scheduled Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar was canceled after Reigns tested positive for COVID-19. Lesnar will now compete in the WWE Championship match, making it a deadly five-way match.

WWE 1 Matches of the Day

WWE Championship – Big E (c) vs Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar: In late October, Rollins won a ladder match on Raw, securing him a future title. That was largely overlooked in November when Big E was tied to Roman Reigns and the Survivor Series. Rollins then announced that he would win his title on Day 1, only to see Owens – who had recently turned his heel by attacking Big E – face Big E with the stipulation that Owens would get into the match with a win. Owens was able to incite Rollins to attack him during the match, which resulted in Owens being named the winner upon disqualification and his participation in the Day 1 title match confirmed. Lashley, enraged at being left out of the picture, defeated Rollins, Owens and Big E in singles matches in a single night, taking his place and turning the match into a deadly four-way game. As mentioned earlier, Lesnar was added at the last minute after his match against Roman Reigns was cancelled.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship – The Usos (c) vs. The New Day: To help Reigns before the Survivor Series match against Big E, The Usos took down Kofi Kingston and destroyed Xavier Woods’ throne, scepter, and crown. With Kingston back in action, the two members of New Day are looking for revenge – and another championship – as they take on The Usos on Day 1.

Women’s Raw Championship – Becky Lynch (c) vs Liv Morgan: Lynch has been in fine form since returning from a sabbatical to give birth to her first child, having had good matches against nearly everyone she has set foot in the ring. Morgan was unable to defeat Lynch in a title match on Raw but took up the challenge for a rematch. Lynch initially refused, instead attacking Morgan, including stepping on Morgan’s arm when it was sandwiched between the steps and the ring pillar. When Morgan was adequately compromised, Lynch accepted the rematch.

Raw Tag Team Championship – RK-Bro (c) vs. The Street Profits: Randy Orton and Riddle are in need of challengers for their Raw tag title. To that end, they formed RK-Bro-nament, which The Street Profits won by defeating The Mysterios in the finals. It’s not the most complicated story, but it makes for a very good match.

Edge vs. The Miz: When Edge returned to Raw, he listed a bunch of potential opponents but left out Miz’s name. This introduced Miz, who is making her own comeback after a long stint on Dancing With The Stars. Miz turned down the chance to go head to head, but the two eventually agreed to have a Day 1 clash. After agreeing to a duel, Miz spiced things up by hitting Edge with a Skull-Crushing. Finale.

Drew McIntyre and Madcap Moss: The two prepare to fight after an odd build that includes trying to remove McIntyre’s sword from a desk and a Christmas Eve Miracle on 34th Street match. McIntyre was mostly standing still until he got his next boost for the main event picture and taking out Moss caused him to start turning to Happy Corbin as a busy storyline.

Cesaro & Ricochet vs Sheamus & Ridge Holland (warm-up): Holland has been trying to impress Sheamus since moving up to the starting XI, which has resulted in constant clashes with Cesaro and Ricochet. After the situation escalated during the glove match in the Christmas Eve version of SmackDown, the four men will now find a way to settle things in a card match on the show’s warm-up.
