Dracthyr will soon be able to take to the skies with dragon riding skills
The next major patch for World of Warcraft, titled “Seeds of Renewal,” is currently underway for testing through the Public Test Realm (PTR). Well, thanks to some development notes posted on Blizzard ForumsWe know some more insight into the changes and additions coming with patch 10.2.5, with a particular highlight being the changes to the Dracthyr, the humanoid dragon race introduced in Dragonflight.
The notes state that Dracthyr will receive a new passive ability titled “Empowered Soaring,” making her racial ability “Soar” now equivalent to dragon riding. This means that all of the power, abilities, and mechanics of dragon riding are now applied to Soar, allowing the dragon race to fly using the same tools as riding. Additionally, Soar now has a ten second cooldown instead of the long five minutes, and in turn, the Familiar Skies racial ability is removed.
An X user named KarazaaCodes, who works as a lead gameplay software engineer, also mentioned this upcoming feature in a post earlier this month, although the patch had not been officially announced at the time. In response to this news, many fans were grateful and excited to see this addition make its way into the game, especially considering many have been hoping for this feature since the race’s launch.
Still, it seems that the feature on the PTR is having some growing pains. with a post detailing some of the issues players have encountered, including loss of momentum in transition areas and problems sliding across the floor, causing you to accidentally stop. Of course, we expect these to be fixed before the patch is officially released.

Although there is no definitive release date, it shouldn’t be too long before players, including the Dractyr, can benefit from this addition while exploring World of Warcraft.
