World of Tanks maker Wargaming is pulling out of Russia and Belarus, leaving live service titles behind

Publisher Wargaming is leaving Russia and Belarus and joining the ranks of many other developers and game companies to cease operations in or with either country. As Russia and Belarus continue their illegal military operations in Ukraine, Wargaming – best known for their popular titles World of Tanks and World of Warships – have made the decision to completely relocate their operations. Wargaming is currently in the process of closing its offices in Russia and its studio in Minsk, Belarus, and promises to support employees in their relocation.

The process officially began on March 31st and is not easy, nor is it something Wargaming would choose to do in other circumstances. The company expects significant financial losses. For this large-scale corporate exodus from Russia and Belarus, Wargaming stated that it “will provide as much severance pay and support as possible to employees affected by the change.” The company has already agreed a similar set of measures at the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when the security of Kiev employees was threatened by the invasion.

On the gaming side, Wargaming is transferring ownership of its Tentpole titles to Russian developer and publisher Lesta Studio, stating that access to its games will be available in Russia and Belarus “during the transition period”. Lesta was previously owned by Wargaming, but that is no longer the case as Wargaming also announced that its affiliation with the company has ended. It is not clear if Wargaming will retain any stake in World of Tanks and World of Warships. World of Tanks maker Wargaming is pulling out of Russia and Belarus, leaving live service titles behind
