Witness Helping Family Get Out of Carjacker At San Jose Gas Station – CBS San Francisco

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – A suspect who attempted to ram a car in San Jose, ordering a mother, daughter and granddaughter to be driven with him, has been detained after when the people around stepped in to rescue them.
San Jose police say the terrifying incident began around 12:25 p.m. Tuesday near N Capitol Ave. and Cropley Ave.

The suspect – Tyrone C Merritt, 34 – jumped out of the car, forcing the mother to drive to another location. In the car were her daughter and little granddaughter.

The woman pulled over to a gas station and quickly called for help from others at the pump. More than one person intervened, called 911 and helped the victims out of the vehicle.
The police came to arrest Merritt – who was on probation for car theft – into custody. He is being held on various charges.

Apart from the concussion, the mother and daughter and granddaughter were not injured.
