International TV market Mipcom will return to the Croisette in October and major exhibitors have already registered.
Organizer RX France, formerly known as Reed Midem, announced on Monday that a tranche of over 200 exhibitors is on board for Mipcom. The list includes super indies like Banijay, Fremantle and ITV Studios, as well as major international players like Beta Film, Cineflix Rights, CJ ENM, Endeavor Content, Global Agency, Keshet International, Studiocanal and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution. (See below for a full list.)
However, the BBC Studios are conspicuously absent from the group. The BBC’s commercial distribution arm was last at Mipcom 2019 with a UK-designed two-story aluminum stand near the Croisette. The company has since been missing, like many others, because of the pandemic in Cannes. While April’s MipTV was held for the first time since 2020, some major distributors chose to stay behind as it was a heavily discounted event.
Although the original list of exhibitors was missing, diversity understands that BBC Studios is likely to attend this year’s Mipcom, but has not officially signed up yet.
In total, exhibitors from 30 countries bought stands for October. The majority of exhibitors, according to RX France, are “returning to their pre-pandemic stand sizes or larger, helped by the reopening of large outdoor stands on the Croisette beach and around the Palais des Festivals”.
Elsewhere, Mipcom has also opened a new international co-production market at the Palais des Festivals, dedicated to “accelerating the international co-production and development business in Cannes”. The centerpiece is the Seaview Producers Hub, a 1,000-square-foot networking lounge and event space designed “to reflect the increased focus in the market for exploring early-stage development and co-production partnerships.”
The Seaview Producers Hub will feature a lounge with indoor and outdoor seating, while a stage and curated areas will support a co-production program and daily events.
Lucy Smith, Director of Entertainment at RX France, said: “2022 is undoubtedly the comeback year for Mipcom Cannes. A healthy string of confirmations four months after launch, with more being added every day, shows a great appetite for the return of a Mipcom in full force. And unhindered by last year’s travel restrictions, to meet increased demand, we’ve planned an oversized edition for this October in Cannes. More on that in the coming months. Watch this room!”
Mipcom runs from October 17th to 20th. Kids’ content market Mip Junior returns to its pre-market weekend spot at the JW Marriott on October 15-16.
