Willow Smith opens up about the aftermath of the Oscar gossip and the public backlash against her family

WillowSmith still rocks with her dad Will Smith even if others don’t after the actor hits the comedian Chris Rock on stage at the 94th Academy Awards last March after making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s shaved head at the Oscars for Best Documentary.
During a recent Billboard interview published on Aug. 5, the 21-year-old opened up about the viral incident and how she views her family, telling reporters that it didn’t stifle her artistry or “shook me as much as my own inner demons.”

“I see my whole family as human beings and I love and accept them for all their humanity,” she explained. “Because of the position we are in, sometimes our humanity is not accepted and we are expected to behave in ways that are not conducive to healthy human living and are not conducive to honesty.”
The “Transparent Soul” singer apparently opened up on the subject two days after the awards show, sharing a quote via her Instagram Stories. “You know who’s going through a lot right now? Literally everyone,” the memo said. “Just be nice.”
Willow’s comments come just days after her father issued a lengthy statement officially apologizing to Rock in his first appearance since the Oscars. The ‘King Richard’ star explained that he didn’t apologize during his acceptance speech because he was “dazed at that point” but reiterated that he was sorry for attacking the comic.
“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that has come back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is he will get in touch,” the Bad Boys star explained. “So I’m going to tell you Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable. And I’ll be here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
He claimed that “no part of me thinks this is the optimal way to deal with a feeling of disrespect or insult” and that his decision to smack the comedian was his own and “Jada had nothing to do with it.” .
Smith was subsequently banned from all virtual and in-person Academy Awards events for the next decade and resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
