Will the Pelicans star play in the NBA playoffs?

Will the New Orleans Pelicans have Zion Williamson available for the NBA Playoffs? Opinions differ on the big star’s return to the lineup.

Three years ago, the Pelicans drafted Zion Williamson in hopes the Duke star would lead them to playoff glory.

They made it into the postseason for the first time in his NBA career… and they made it without him.

Williamson didn’t play at all in 2022 after suffering a broken foot in the offseason. He underwent surgery in July and his return to action has been delayed due to pain.

Despite his absence, the Pelicans rode the wave with CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram. They made it past the Clippers in the play-in tournament to grab No. 8.

Now the question is whether New Orleans can look forward to adding their star forward to the playoff mix.

Zion Williamson Injury: Will the New Orleans Pelicans Let Zion Williamson Play in the NBA Playoffs?

The short answer is nobody knows.

The long answer is that Williamson’s chances of making it back seem to depend on who you ask.

According to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez, “There is currently a disagreement between the Pelicans and Williamson as to whether he is healthy enough to play.”

Williamson’s camp appears to be urging him to be cleared. He has posted several social media videos showing him performing polished dunks and even showed off his moves during the pre-game warm-up.

Meanwhile, the team continues to insist “that the bone in Williamson’s foot hasn’t healed enough to speak out.”

He made strides from solo practice to 3-on-3 work before the end of the regular season. So it seems like he’s closer than he’s ever been this season. It’s just not clear if that might mean qualifying for a first-round game against the Suns or having to pull off a miraculous upset to ensure a second-round appearance.

As of now, the odds of Williamson making the playoffs feel about as good as New Orleans beating Phoenix in a seven-game series. Will the Pelicans star play in the NBA playoffs?
