Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Zampino earlier opens up about co-parenting and her request for Jada Pinkett Smith
Sheree Zampino gets candid about her early days as co-parent with ex-husband Will Smith. Despite being seen as a model for blended families, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star recently shared that it wasn’t always a walk in the park.
During her appearance on the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast with David Yontef on Monday, July 2, the 54-year-old spoke about co-parenting Trey, now 29, in the years following their divorce. The “King Richard” star and Zampino married in 1992 but separated shortly thereafter in 1995. Smith married Jada Pinkett in 1997 and welcomed two children – son Jaden, 24, and daughter Willow, 21 – together.
But Zampino and the Oscar winner have remained very close. “I’m not going to say it’s easy,” she told Yontef in the new interview around the 39-minute mark. “My heart always beats for my child. My child comes first. He really does. It’s not about me anymore We are not together. It is not about me. It’s him, then Jayden comes along. It’s about the babies.”
Elsewhere, she added that her goal has never been to “deprive” her child of a relationship with his father or his new wife. “When you respect each other, it becomes easier,” she explained, before adding, “Jada was like that as long as she was treating him [Trey] Well, we’re fine. It’s all right. And she treated him well and she loved him.”
The reality star continued, “They have three different dynamics, three different personalities and different belief systems, different ways of doing things. And there were times when we hit our heads and it wasn’t pretty, but listen, we’ll get back on that horse and move on.”
The entrepreneur shared they didn’t have time to deal with issues, adding, “We do what we have to do because at the end of the day, it’s about the kids again.”
Zampino also spoke about Smith watching her on “RHOBH.” The businesswoman joined the Bravo franchise, which is currently in its 12th season, as a girlfriend last May. The veteran reality star told host Yontef she doesn’t feel compelled to make Will and Jada fans of the show.
“I don’t know what to make of texting Will and Jada like, ‘I’ll be on the show for about four minutes, can you watch the full 44?'” she joked during the discussion , before adding that she hopes the couple aren’t already viewers of the series. “I don’t feel called to do that,” she said.
