I really enjoyed acting in high school. It’s fun to pretend to be someone else and glimpse my thoughts on any given role.
Today, I will use “Scale hats“and we’re going to play a fun game” Let’s Set The Odds! “In this edition, we’ll answer the question that’s constantly on the minds of every Giants fan: Is Saquon Barkley traded?
This is not the future Dave Gettleman envisioned when making Saquon the overall #2 pick. But honestly, based on his moves as General Manager of Giants, I’m not sure he envisioned any kind of future. It’s time to turn the page and lay the groundwork for what will hopefully bring the Giants back to glory, and that means all options are on the table.
There is no doubt that Saquon was an elite talent while still healthy. Just look at this explosion:
He has an incredible blend of size and speed while being one of the best passers in his position in the NFL. The problem, however, is that he is almost never healthy.
Saquon has only played 15 games in the last two years and it’s not like running backwards healthier when they get old. In fact, backrunners historically experience a larger drop in performance as their distance increases than any other position in football.
If the Giants are going to get any kind of value for Barkley, it has to be now. And New York desperately needs money. They had to sell $11.5 million on March 16 to get the cap, and the Saquon trade erases $7.2 million he owes with his fifth-year option.
However, The Giants won’t be able to achieve anything close to the #2 overall pick they used on him, and they know that if he’s healthy, he’ll bring dynamism to the team. attack combines well with the mobility of midfielder Daniel Jones. But they’re listening to the calls, and if someone were to offer a 2nd or 3rd round option, New York would probably have to accept it.
At this point, with Giants’ limited space in such a dire state, I think the odds that he’s trading are increasing day by day. I have set it like this:
It will be painful for New York to move from Barkley after investing so much in his career, so I think they will have exhausted every possible option to stay. But as each day passed and they had to find a way to cash in, all it took was a solid offer and he was gone.
