After this year’s more than eventful 94th Academy Awards, his producer Willpacker makes it clear that there is nothing that will ever make him produce another Oscar. The statement came days after Will Smith publicly apologized to Chris Rock for the first time since taking to the stage and hitting the comedian while making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.
During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club for his new film Beast, the producer admitted he wouldn’t take the appearance should the opportunity arise, when former host Angela Yee asked about the chances of attending the annual ceremony next year to produce.
“There’s nothing. There’s no way. [They could] offer me everything There’s no way I would do it,” the Hollywood exec said around the 32-minute mark. When asked why, the ‘Night School’ producer explained, “I made it.” Charlamagne Tha God jokingly suggested that the controversial actor might have had something to do with his decision.
However, the 41-year-old manager claimed it was just something he’d crossed off his list, but admitted it was difficult, equating it to “producing ten films at once”.
Packer noted that “it’s an incredibly labor-intensive process.” He added: “And I like to pour everything in, you know what I mean. idris [Elba] is one of the first people to text me after all this, went downstairs and he just said something like ‘heavy is the head that wears the crown. Stay up, King.” That’s my type; he does.”
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Packer also addressed Smith’s video of the King Richard star answering burning questions many online users have had, including whether his wife ordered him to attack Rock – which he denied.
“I love that he’s been so transparent about his process,” Packer said of Smith’s video statements. “Obviously he’s going through his own personal rehabilitation.”
He also shared that he’s drawing for both Rock and Smith and wished the Oscar winner well. “I draw him to continue his own process but I think that’s for him. He has to do it.”
