An NBA spokesperson responded to the report, via Sam Gordon of the Las Vegas Review-Journalsays “there is no truth” to it.

James is currently 37 years old, his 4th time with the Lakers. This year, James is averaging 29.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists while shooting 51.9% across 43 games. The Lakers hold the 27-33 record and sit in ninth place in the Western Conference as of Monday, February 28.
