James Harden will finally get the chance to prove the trade is worth it in his Philadelphia 76ers debut Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The city of Philadelphia didn’t have to wait much longer. It’s Time for James Harden 76ers launch.
The blockbuster deal that brought Ben Simmons to Brooklyn and turned Harden into a Sixer happened two weeks ago. However, the All-Star was sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Now, Harden is good to go and his debut date has been set.
James Harden will make his 76ers debut on Friday
According to Shams Charania, Harden will take to court for the 76ers for the first time on Friday against the Timberwolves.
He last played on February 2 for the Nets match against the kings. In 37 minutes, he earned just four points but made 12 assists. He has racked up double-digit assists in each of his last five appearances.
Philadelphia gave up a lot to bring back Harden, so the microscope will be on him, his hamstrings and his chemistry with Joel Embiid.
In an ideal world, Harden and Embiid would be able to get along well. Both will pull defenders to them when they have the ball. Others will be able to benefit from that a lot.
Of course, there is always a question of suitability, style and personality. Harden has had broken relationships on previous NBA stops. Embiid doesn’t have a superstar partner that notices him. Both will have to keep things flowing and out of court for this partnership to work.
So will it work for Harden in Philadelphia? Championship has to be the goal, and that’s never certain. For now, it’s important to keep him healthy and working in concert with Embiid before the knockouts take place.
As they say, it’s a process.
