Why is Destiny 2 chat disabled?

When chat isn’t working in Destiny 2, it’s usually because a player may be having internet issues. We usually recommend turning off their consoles, resetting Destiny 2, and trying to load it again. However, over the weekend, several Destiny 2 players discovered they could crash the game against their opponents, and they were able to win Trial matches outright. Specifically, these bugs would cause the opposing players to have a Weasel bug and they would be knocked out of the game.

If you find you can’t talk through Destiny 2, this is the main reason. Bungie temporarily removed this feature to find the source of the issue and they are actively working to ensure all players do not experience these issues. The team has no set time when they can fix the issue. For now, players will have to wait for the feature to return before they can communicate in Destiny 2. We recommend using external voice channels like Discord or even your platform’s voice chat.

Before the system shut down, several players in the community recommended that those wishing to protect themselves manually turn off the in-game whisper channel to prevent a crash. Hopefully Bungie finds a fix and they can turn this service back on for all users.
