Dak Prescott won’t have at least one of his favorite targets on Turkey Day.
Wide receiver Amari Cooper will be absent from the field, the second straight game Cooper will miss as he is currently sidelined due to the NFL’s coronavirus protocols.
In nine games, Cooper had 44 583-yard passes as part of the Cowboys’ powerful passing attack, his fourth season in Dallas after being traded from the Raiders in 2018.
For now, he’ll spend his potential Thanksgiving game of revenge off the grid and away from the Cowboys in general. Here’s why:
Why doesn’t Amari Cooper play on Thanksgiving?
On November 19, Cooper was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 roster, forcing him to miss the Cowboys’ Week 11 game against the Captains and also their Thanksgiving Week 12 game against the Raiders.
Cooper, who has not been vaccinated, must be quarantined for 10 days before he can return to the team. He is likely to return to the field in Dallas’ Week 13 game against The Saints.
NFL’s COVID-19 guidance for unvaccinated players requires them to be out of action for a minimum of 10 days, be asymptomatic, and test negative twice, 24 hours apart, before becoming eligible to return. back to the field.
Players who have received the coronavirus vaccine must test negative twice within 24 hours and be symptom-free, but are not subject to any kind of mandatory isolation process.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott stands by WR Amari Cooper, saying he believes most players contracted with COVID-19 – vaccinated or unvaccinated – will miss 10 days. “That’s my teammate. That’s my brother. I will continue to support him and support him. This is everyone’s personal decision.” pic.twitter.com/8NznH3Thqa

Along with Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb, Cooper played a key role in the Cowboys’ attack, and was on track to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for a fourth straight season before being placed on the COVID roster.
Heading into a Thanksgiving game against the Raiders, the Cowboys may well be without a second-year widely Lamb, who took on concussion protocol in the second quarter of Sunday’s Chiefs-Cowboys game.
