Who Really Killed Michael Jackson? 7NEWS Spotlight documentary reveals King of Pop used fake identities to procure string of drugs

Pop megastar Michael Jackson had created 19 fake aliases to collect various prescriptions at the height of his drug abuse in the years leading up to his death at the age of 50, according to a explosive documentary on Sevens Spotlight.

The allegation is made in the special investigation Who Really Killed Michael Jackson? revealed, which includes never-before-seen interviews with the King of Pop’s former wife Debbie Rowe, as well as a host of people close to the tragic star’s murder case and his spiraling behavior over his final tragic months.

The two-hour TMZ production questions whether the Beat It singer’s doctor, Conrad Murray, was solely to blame for Jackson’s death in 2009, and examines the role of other medical professionals, including the late Hollywood dermatologist Arnold Klein, for whom Rowe previously worked has worked.

TMZ executive producer Harvey Levin says Jackson was slowly unraveling on a downward spiral of addiction and despair at the time of his death from an overdose.

“People assume that Dr. Conrad Murray was solely responsible for Michael’s death (but) the real story is radically different and shocking,” Levin said.

Murray was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 50-year-old Jackson after a cardiac arrest induced by propofol, an anesthetic he was regularly given by the doctor. He served half of that prison sentence.

However, the documentary makes the shocking claim that Murray wasn’t the only medic who allowed the superstar to continue his long-standing drug use.

Orlando Martinez, an LAPD detective assigned to the homicide investigation, told the documentary that blaming Jackson’s death was “much more complicated” than simply blaming Murray.

“Circumstances had led to his death for years, and all these different medical professionals had allowed Michael to dictate his own terms and get the drugs he wanted, when he wanted it, where he wanted it,” Martinez tells the doctor .

“You are all the reason he is dead today.”

LA County Assistant Medical Examiner Ed Winter said the thriller star was consuming propofol in “gatorade-sized bottles” at the time of Jackson’s death, but Murray – who appears exclusively in the production – said the star routinely had the anesthetic as a last resort has been using sleep aids for decades.

“It wasn’t a big deal,” Murray said.

The documentary further explores the addiction that ruled Jackson’s life. These addictions dated back to the painkillers administered during filming of a Pepsi commercial for severe burns in a pyrotechnic horror accident in 1984.

This drug use reportedly intensified after Jackson forged a connection with celebrity dermatologist Klein, who previously told TMZ his role in supplying Jackson with the opioid Demerol and other substances.

“Dr. Klein was more than happy to comply and justified it with minor interventions,” Levin said of Klein, who died of natural causes in 2015.

Rowe also claims her former boss was notorious for attracting Hollywood clients through unethical behavior.

“There were times when he would write out prescriptions for things that had nothing to do with what we were treating them for,” says Rowe in the documentary.

“He wrote prescriptions that were not conducive to what a dermatologist would normally write a prescription for.”

Winter said Jackson created 19 fake identities to obtain a range of drugs – but it was Klein who kept a notebook documenting which prescription went to which alias.

“The way Michael got all these drugs was through doctor visits,” claims Jackson’s cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Harry Glassman.

“He had several different doctors that he dealt with and he would go to ‘Doctor A’ and ask for a sedative and then he would go to ‘Doctor B’ and maybe ask for the same.

“Michael is responsible in large part for his own death, but he certainly had a lot of help from the medical community.”

Martinez said that while Jackson died with Murray at his bedside, the doctor wasn’t the only doctor involved in his death.

“We knew there were several doctors doing what Dr. Murray had done and that they had done over the years,” says Martinez.

“We decided to focus on that night because of the criminal side. So that negated the whole other story with the other doctors.

“There are many people to blame who never had an accounting for his death.”

Murray also claims that he was largely unaware of Jackson’s drug use outside of what he administered as his personal physician.

“Michael Jackson was a drug addict and he was a master manipulative because I was manipulated by Michael,” Murray said.

“I never activated him in his addiction.”
