UFC 275: Who is Jack Della Maddalena?

Jack Della Maddalena does things a little differently. After losing his first two pro fights in a row, he’s on an 11-fight win streak that dates back to 2016. He didn’t just impress on the Dana White Contender Series against Ange Loosa, but he followed that up with a great boxing performance against Pete Rodriguez in his UFC debut.

Maddalena picked up a first-round knockout at UFC 270 and is now returning for UFC 275. This time he’s fighting his toughest challenger yet, Ramazan Emeev, on the main map.

Maddalena has made a name for herself with it Eternal MMA Promotion in Australia and following in the footsteps of some of the best fighters from the Oceanic region including Alexander Volkanovski.

If there’s anything to be said for Maddalena’s rapid rise in the UFC, it’s that his boxing is no joke. He has good timing, quick hands and strong counterattacks with his left hand. 10 of his victories came via finish, 8 via strikes and one via a doctor’s stop due to cut injuries.

While everyone is talking about Maddalena’s boxing, it will be interesting to see how well he can handle Emeev’s level changes and pressure. Emeev’s 2.02 absorbed punches and 66% save will certainly be put to the test, but he’ll need to land some big takedowns to evade Maddalena’s punch. His 2.29 attempts per 15 minutes suggests he will level up whenever he can, which could be Maddalena’s kryptonite.

If Maddalena is able to demonstrate his impressive quality at this level, there is no telling where he will finish in 2022. Australia and the Oceanic region have developed immensely as a breeding ground for UFC, and Maddalena is the cream of the crop in UFC 275.
