Who is featherweight prospect Mike Malott?

Meet Canadian featherweight rising star Mike Malott ahead of his UFC debut.

Mike Malott will make his UFC debut Saturday night when he takes on Mickey Gall in the UFC 273 preliminary round, which will be televised exclusively on ESPN and ESPN+ at 6pm ET/3pm PT from Jacksonville’s VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena Step into the Octagon, FL.

Malott enters the promotion with a three-fight win streak, taking a 7-1-1 record to the featherweight division. He’s a submission expert first and foremost, as four of his seven wins have come in a variety of forms: guillotine, tap due to strikes, and rear-naked choke.

Malott holed his ticket to the UFC by getting a contract as part of it The Contender Series by Dana White during week six of the show’s fourth season. He defeated Shimon Smotritsky in just 39 seconds into the opening round, which impressed the UFC president enough to give him a shot at the next level of MMA.

Who is Mickey Gall?

Gall has been with the UFC since 2016 and is believed to be one of the first fighters Dana White ever signed from his YouTube series Dana White: Looking for a fight. Gall competed against the likes of Phil Brooks (aka CM Punk) and Sage Northcutt to name a few, making him one of the hottest contenders in MMA at the time. However, Gall has been fickle in the Octagon and has struggled to find a rhythm ever since. Gall suffers a unanimous decision loss to Alex Morono in December 2021.

Something has to give way as a win for Gall will put him back on his winning streak while a Malott win will put his UFC on the right foot.
