Who won the college basketball championship last year?
The Kansas Jayhawks are the third of four to qualify for the 2022 Quarterfinals and will take on Jay Wright’s Villanova Wildcats on Saturday in New Orleans.
There is only one 1 seed in March Madness left and that is the Kansas Jayhawks, who just won tickets to the Finals.
Despite a halftime defeat to Miami Hurricanes No. 10, Bill Self’s team reacted and beat Jim LarraƱaga’s team in the final frame, 76-50. This is the 16th time Kansas has cut the net. This is their first trip to the Finals since 2018 and the fifth time Self has guided the Jayhawks as far as the previous NCAA Tournament. They can absolutely win it all right now.
But before they do that, who will be the No. 1 Kansas will play in their national semifinals?
March Madness 2022: Who will Kansas play against in the Final Four?
Because the Jayhawks won the Midwest Regional Finals, they will face the winner of the South Regional Finals in the national semifinals in New Orleans on Saturday. That means they will face off against Big East college basketball powerhouse Villanova in the Finals. The last time Kansas made it to Round 4 of the Finals, Villanova beat the Jayhawks to the national title where they played for Michigan.
Although the Jayhawks’ side features two elite blue-blooded basketball players, it’s going to be the other side that will capture the nation’s attention. 2nd place Duke won the West Regional Finals on Saturday night. This is Coach K’s last tournament as head coach of the Blue Devils. His team will face arch-rivals North Carolina or perhaps the greatest Cinderella of all time at Saint Peter’s.
If Kansas can beat a dwindling Villanova team, the Jayhawks will be playing for a national title.
