Where’s Marty? Celebrating Maryland Day of Pride of Baltimore II – CBS Baltimore

Hi guys!
Today is Maryland Day, the celebration of the first colonists to set foot on the land that will become Maryland. It was 1634, two years before a charter was granted to those who would sail in two ships, the Ark and the Dove, not to explore but to settle the land. For more detailed information, see “Maryland User Guide” on the official state website. All I can say is these people must really want to leave the really bad ole fun house. part of the state’s official website.

This morning we were held in the capital of Maryland, Annapolis, by Pride of Baltimore II. And that’s fitting because Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay go hand-in-hand, whether you’re in Garrett County or Wicomico and everywhere in between. It all started with these people rowing up the largest river mouth in the world. Landing site, Island of St. Clements, quite a distance from the Bay. The Pride of Baltimore II Captain Jan Miles explained the landing and the two ships to us about “Where’s Marty?” this morning. Jan has been a Captain for four decades, give or take a year. He’s one of the most respected captains in America, a great Marylander, and a great guy!
Of course, how can you talk about Maryland and not bring up the most amazing state flag in the United States? You couldn’t, so we did and you helped. Here is a link to learn more about the family crests of the two families, which, when combined, form our flag. (We’ll put anything, by the way!) Without seeing the picture of the flag, can you hang it on the pole properly? So many people wrongly put the crest on the top. If you’re not sure, here’s an easy way to remember the correct way: “Eggs and black coffee on top”.
