With so many tough bosses to fight and dungeons to explore, Elden Ring is best enjoyed with a load of well-armed gear. But with so many types of upgrade materials required for the wide array of weapons, it can be difficult to find just the right components to boost your damage by a tier. This is especially true in Somber Smithing Stones 6, which you need to upgrade some of the most powerful weapons in the game.

Location of the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing 3
The best way to farm these Somber Smithing Stones is to find the Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing 3. This allows you to buy Somber Smithing Stones 5 and 6 directly from the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold, meaning you can effectively farm them through runes, which is a much easier task.
However, to find the Somberstone Miner’s Bell with Camp 3, you must have access to the Mountaintop of the Giants. This can be a tall quest if you’re early in the game, but once you get there, the Bell Camp is easy to find by heading to the first Church of Marika in the location shown above.
Once there, you’ll find the bell camp on the corpse of a nobleman just outside the front door of the church.
Early Gloom Forgestone 6 locations
If you haven’t reached Giant’s Mountaintop yet but still need a Somber Smithing Stone 6, you still have a few options to pick it up right away. Below are two of the easier options to get in the first half of the game.
Magnus the Claw of the Beast
This option is pretty straight forward and has the benefit of resolving two checkers instead of one. The only trade-off is that it will also require a bit of combat. First, head to the Writheblood ruins on the Altus Plateau.
Once you reach the ruins, look for a red summoning sign in a small building next to the main building. Be careful because this building (and the surrounding area) is full of dogs that deal bleed damage. Activating this summoning token will start a fight against Magnus the Beast Claw, who will drop both stones if defeated.
For an option that does not require a fight, you can go to Mount Gelmir on the border of the Altus Plateau. From the First Mt. Gelmir Campsite Site of Grace head southeast past the stone coffins.
There’s a corpse sitting on a chair here on the cliff, where you’ll find a Somber Smithing Stone 6. Be careful though, as his trusty wolf companion might not take kindly to you stealing his precious stone.
