Where can I find Magikarp in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Magikarp is by far the most pathetic Pokemon ever created in the series. That being said, it also has one of the most epic developments in Gyarados, so there’s at least one reason to take the headache out of having one in your party if you want a powerhouse on your team later on. If Gyarados is one of your favorite Pokemon, here’s the much weaker Magikarp in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to catch Magikarp in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

There are fewer places you can’t find Magikarp than places where you can find it in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Looking at the potential habitats, the entire Paldea region is almost full. To find him you just have to go where you would expect fish; in every body of water. Whether it’s a river, the sea, or a pond, Magikarp can spawn in any water source, even if it’s right next to a desert. Just walk around these wet areas and eventually you should see one struggling to squirt. If you’re lucky, you might even find a shiny gold one.

When fighting a Magikarp, remember that it is weak to Electric and Grass attacks. In most cases, throwing a Pokéball at it will be enough to catch it, but if luck doesn’t suit you, we recommend hitting with a low-power attack so you don’t accidentally knock it out, which is pretty easy to do. It probably won’t have any moves other than Splash, so don’t even worry about it retaliating.

If you have Magikarp, we highly recommend putting it last in your party so it can gain experience while your much more useful Pokemon fight. When it reaches level 20, it evolves into the awesome Gyarados.
