Since the release of Overwatch 2, there have been a few issues. Whether it’s server issues or fans fretted by in-game store pricing, it’s been a little bumpier for Blizzard than we’d like. One of the issues associated with the game were groundbreaking bugs that led to the developer removing some of the game’s playable characters – including Mei. Here you can expect to bring Mei back from her icy prison.

When is Mei coming back to Overwatch 2?
After being removed from Overwatch 2 for several weeks, Mei was originally scheduled to return to the game on November 15, along with the next scheduled update for the game, which will include various buffs and nerfs for other characters. Unfortunately the update was delayed and is now scheduled to go live a few days later on November 17th at 11:00am PT. Whenever this update actually happens, she will be back in game and playable in Competitive, Unranked, and all Arcade modes.
Mei was originally removed from Overwatch 2 because her Wall of Ice ability caused certain heroes to be thrown out of play during matches, disrupting the game entirely. This allowed certain characters to become invincible and still deal damage to the opposing team. In order to make sure they found all of the spots where she could potentially come out, Mei had to be completely removed from the game so they could run some tests on all the maps before bringing them back.
Mei isn’t the first character to be temporarily disabled in Overwatch 2. Bastion was also removed from the game entirely when players were able to shoot his ultimate over a dozen times, despite only wanting three. Torbjörn was also removed from Competitive Play at the same time, but was still available in Quickplay as his Overload ability could be used multiple times in a row without a cooldown.
