When was the last time Arizona won the NCAA?

The Arizona Wildcats have a long history of making it to the NCAA Tournament without really finding much success. The Wildcats made 36 official appearances in the NCAA tournament along with two others vacated by the NCAA.

This season was the first since 2018 that the Wildcats appeared in March and the sixth time they won the No. 1 seed.

After an 85-80 win over TCU Horned Frogs in the second round, the Wildcats made it to the sweet round of 16 for the first time since 2017.

Arizona may have appeared nearly 40 times in the NCAA Tournament but they’ve only hit the mark once. In 1997, as a four-seeded, the Wildcats crossed the board and ended up beating No. 1 seed Kentucky in an overtime thriller.

The Wildcats followed this up with another trip to the National Championships in 2001 as the 2nd seed. This time, the Wildcats were not so lucky and fell to top seed Duke 82-72. Since that season, the Wildcats have made it to the Elite Eight five times and are well on their way to this sixth place.

The Arizona Wild Cat is now the second favorite to win the National Championship at WynnBET Sportsbook at +400. Gonzaga is the only team with better odds at +225.

Next, they have a tough game against 5th seed Houston Cougars in the round of 16 Sweet to get through. And while the Cougars have one of the best defenses in the country, Arizona’s offensive behavior is nearly unstoppable. They are third in offensive goalscoring, third in margin average, first in assists per game and third in rebounds per game. There is not a single area that is truly attacked where they do not dominate. Their defense is also not bad and ranks 127th in scoring ability.

Bookmakers claim their offense has the edge in this game and the Wildcats are listed as a two-point favorite against the Cougars. If the Wildcats win, they will advance to the Elite Eight to face off against the winner of the Michigan vs Villanova game.
