I was worried about the possibility that UNC could continue in this year’s NCAA Tournament due to their poor defense. But, somehow, the Tar Heels began to come to life on the defensive end of the field as the game began.

During the regular season, Tar Heels’ defense was actually quite terrible and ranked 235th when scoring 71.9 points per game. Their outfield defense is below average and they allow for more scoring attempts than almost the entire nation. While they let Baylor score 86 points in the last round, Baylor is the No. 1 seed and favorite to win it all. In addition, the match went into stoppage time.

UNC held off Marquette by just 63 in the opening round, and in the final game of the regular season, UNC held Virginia Tech to 72. Tar Heels’ average shot rate on defense this year is 42.8% but that number has dropped significantly to 37.4. in their last three matches.

I think, while UCLA’s attack ranks 44th in score, they don’t compete too well with UNC. Most of the Bruins’ goals are in the paint and that’s where UNC plays best their mediocre defence.

Lean: UNC + 2.5 (-110)
