When does the US Open start?

If you’re planning on watching the entire 150th Open Championship on Wednesday, you’d better take a nap and have a pot of coffee ready.

I love golf as much as anyone, but a 1:35 tee time seems a bit extreme doesn’t it? No, I’m not talking about 1:35 p.m., I mean 1:35 a.m. Yes, then the trio of Paul Lawrie, Webb Simpson and Min Woo Lee will serve 150th Open Championship.

Most of us in the United States will be asleep when the first threesome begins on the Old Course at St. Andrews, but what might be the witching hour for us here in the States is the sunrise over the pond.

When does the Open Championship start in America?

Believe it or not, sunrise over Scotland on Thursday morning when the tournament begins will be around 4:45am local time. That means the sun will rise and reveal the sophisticated beauty of the Old Course at St. Andrews just before the clock strikes midnight here in the States.

The first three golfers start The Open Championship begins at 6:35 a.m. local time, which is 1:35 a.m. ET. For our West Coast friends it will still technically be Wednesday night when the British Open begins.

But who wouldn’t want to wake up listening to the morning traffic report or enjoying a hearty breakfast? For early risers like me, I can watch Justin Thomas, Will Zalatoris, Rory McIlroy and defending champion Collin Morikawa. All four should be on course by 5:30am ET.

If you are someone who likes to sleep late, don’t worry. Dustin Johnson and Scottie Scheffler don’t tee off until after 8:00 p.m. When you’re ready to see Tiger Woods in action again, set your alarm for around 9:30 a.m. ET, which should give you plenty of time to brush your teeth, grab a coffee and watch the three-time Open champion tee off at number 1 in St .Andrews watch.

The final trio begins play in Round 1 just before lunchtime in New York City. Lars Van Meijel, Jack Floydd and Ronan Mullarney will begin their hunt for golf’s oldest major just after 11:15 a.m. on the East Coast.

Get a good night’s sleep on Wednesday and be prepared for a wall-to-wall battle Golf action from the Old Course at St Andrews from waking up until just before dinner. And guess what? On Friday morning you can do everything again.
