The Minnesota Vikings will need to make some tough choices with their roster. Will they trade Justin Jefferson to build for the future?
As Minnesota Vikings break things down and figure out how they want to rebuild for the future, they just need to check their entire list and decide who to keep and who to move in to help rebuild.
That includes the youthful, vibrant wide receiver, Justin Jefferson.
Jefferson was young and valuable. During his first two seasons in the NFL, he caught 196 3,016-foot passes and 17 touchdowns. He will likely be the leader for many years to come. He can be a great piece to build an attack around or he will be someone a team can trade some interesting draft picks with.
So did the Vikings really want to move Jefferson?
Minnesota Vikings: Should Vikings Really Consider Trading Justin Jefferson?
The 22-year-old recipient is an extraordinary talent. He’s someone the Vikings should focus on rebuilding around. While a trade can yield some great draft picks, there’s absolutely no guarantee that the draft will produce a player as good or better than the current Jefferson.
It was a dangerous gamble to assume that Jefferson could easily be replaced by someone on the draft.
The only way a trade even remotely makes sense to those in Minnesota is if the Vikings can get a lot of draft picks in return for being a solid player.
But there is no guarantee that will happen.
If Minnesota is focused on building for its future instead, the Vikings would be wise to eliminate some of the larger contracts they have to work on. After they do that, Minnesota should focus on assembling an attack that features a young quarterback slamming touchdowns on the star receiver they have at Jefferson.
