Mohammed Siraj, an aspiring Indian pace bowler of humble origins, made his name in cricket. As is usual among Indian players, Siraj entered the Indian setup via the IPL. RCB acquired Mohammed Siraj for a whopping INR 2.6 million from SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the 2018 IPL auction. These days, the 27-year-old Hyderabadi is an integral part of the Bangalore team, sitting alongside Virat Kohli in their list of retained players in the upcoming season. After RCB continued to back Siraj along with former skipper Kohli and Australia’s heavy hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, Siraj takes 7 crore INR.

At the 2017 IPL auction, Siraj was purchased for INR 2.6 crores, a staggering sum considering its base price. He played his first game with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) where Tom Moody discovered his ability to generate pace. With just six games under his belt, he took 10 wickets.
Bangalore acquired Siraj for INR 2.6 crore during the 2018 auction after Hyderabad parted ways with him over irregular bowling. He recorded 11 wickets on the season and gradually became Virat Kohli’s lethal bowler.
Mohammed Siraj recalled being selected in an auction by SRH
RCB podcast host Danish Sait asked SIRAJ how he knew he had been selected for the IPL team. Siraj replied: “I was in the middle of a Ranji Trophy T20 practice session in Hyderabad when Bharat Arun sir came up to me and said don’t come to practice today. After I asked them “why sir?” they replied that there is an auction and you cannot concentrate on your practice, then Siraj asked them sir my select ho jaunga na and they replied yes stay relaxed and don’t take any tension.
“My name didn’t come up until lunch. I thought, “What’s going on here? Have they removed my name?” I immediately called Bharat Arun, “My name has not come up until now.” He told me not to worry. After an hour – about half an hour later – my name popped up: Siraj. Nobody raised their hand for the first ten seconds. I thought, ‘Somebody just pick it up and then put it down.’ Then RCB raised and I was like, okay, so I’m selected. When I returned home my brother told me I was selected for INR 2.6 crores,” Siraj added.
All that matters to me is playing cricket and representing my country. RCB bid 2.4 as that was their budget in the auction and Sunrisers Hyderabad bid 2.6. All I knew was that RCB would bid for me. I started screaming that I was selected in RCB but didn’t know I was selected in SRH.
