People who are very rich and very powerful Fenway Sports Group is in advanced talks to buy the team, was last valued at $845 million by Sportico, confirm The Athletic.

No deal has been finalized yet and the sale will require approval from the NHL Board of Directors. Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports that the parties have been negotiating for several months.

This deal was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Sources have told The Athletic’s Josh Yohe that a deal could be finalized as early as Thursday, coincidentally with the Penguins playing in Mario Lemieux’s hometown of Montreal.

Multiple Penguins sources have also confirmed that Lemieux will remain a member of the minority ownership group, something fans have idolized him for almost 40 years.

“Mario is very happy about it,” said a source inside the Penguins. “He will still be here. He will still complete the transactions. He can still talk to Sully (Penguin Trainer Mike Sullivan) about the power game. He will still be Mario. He will still have some power. Penguin fans will still see him around.
