As you explore Hogwarts Legacy and check out the many locations you can find throughout the game, there are several valuable items that you can find and place on your character to improve their attributes. There may be a handful of items that your character can’t properly identify when you first pick them up, leaving you with an empty item that you can’t use. Fortunately, there is a way to identify these items. Here’s what you need to know about what to do with unidentified items in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to identify items and equipment in Hogwarts Legacy

Any time you find an unidentified piece of gear while exploring Hogwarts Legacy, we recommend that you save that item. Although it’s not useful or available to you right now, you’ll have the option to use it later if you find and unlock the Room of Requirement.

The Room of Requirement is a place that appeared in the Harry Potter books and films. It’s a place that pops up when someone desperately needs a certain item and seemingly provides assistance. For the main character, the Room of Requirement becomes a place to house their plants to grow, brew their potions, and use it as a room to practice their spells. There’s also the Desk of Description, which allows you to identify any unknown objects in your inventory that are marked as “unidentified”.

If you haven’t unlocked this room yet, fear not. It appears in the main story quests for Hogwarts Legacy. We urge you to work on the main quests and progression in the game and finally this place will be available for you and you can use it as you like and decorate it as you see fit.
