What Kirby Smart, Stetson Bennett said after Georgia won the national championship

Here’s what Kirby Smart and Stetson Bennett had to say after the Georgia Bulldogs finally conquered the Alabama Crimson Tide to claim their first National Championship in more than four decades.

The Georgia Bulldogs had their share of heartache while playing the Alabama Crimson Tide. From the 2018 CFP National Championship Game and this season’s SEC Championship Game, causing Georgia to lose its first game of the season. But now, the Bulldogs have finally avenged Tide.

On Monday night, Georgia beat Alabama 33-18 to win the show’s first National Championship since 1980.

Head coach Kirby Smart not only won his first title as head coach, but he defeated Nick Saban in his first encounter. After being presented with the CFP national championship trophy, Smart paid his respects to legendary Georgia sports broadcaster Larry Munson.

Bennett spoke to ESPN’s Holly Rowe after his 224 yard pass and two touchdowns helped Georgia claim their biggest win in 41 years.

The first half of the match was a battle between the defenses of both teams, causing them to settle the score. It was a completely different story in the second half, and Georgia came to fruition. First, they led their first game on a one-yard field run by Zamir White. Then, Stetson Bennett hit the ground with an impressive pass to give Adonai Mitchell an 18-13 lead. The lead continued to widen on Brock Bowers’ 15-yard catch and run.

But the Bulldogs officially won when Kelee Ringo blocked Bryce Young’s pass and returned 79 yards for a touchdown with less than a minute of regulation left.

The Bulldogs and their fans have had a long wait, but this championship will be one they will never forget.
