What are bottle cap shortcuts in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands? answered

When you first enter the overworld in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, you will encounter large, real-world objects scattered around the map. One such item is a bottle cap with a rabbit’s face painted on it. When knocked over, these bottle caps serve as permanent shortcuts between areas in the overworld.

The bottle caps are also a way for Wonderlands to simulate playing on a game board for a tabletop role-playing game. The game master will use whatever is at hand to build a bridge, a castle or whatever is in the imaginary world.

Initially there is no way to interact with these bottle caps as they are on the other side of an impassable gap and face away. However, as you move around the map, you will eventually reach the side with the face. Walk up to it and press the melee button and the bottle cap will fall down, bridging the gap and opening the shortcut.

Sometimes a bottle cap shortcut that seems unreachable is actually near a link dungeon. These dungeons have an entrance and exit on the map that are very close together, and if you complete the encounter in it you will pop out on the other side, usually with the bottle cap nearby.

However, you won’t be able to reach every bottle cap once you see it. The Wonderlands map changes and evolves as you progress through the main story. Additional paths and other shortcuts also open as you enter and exit later areas. During gameplay, keep an eye out for where “unreachable” bottle cap shortcuts are. You may find a way to knock them down after completing some main story quests.
