Wet ‘n Wild Gold Coast: Two dogs rescued from hot car parked outside theme park

Two dogs left in oven-like conditions in a car outside a Gold Coast theme park are “very lucky” to have survived, authorities say.

The dogs were confiscated from their owner after they were rescued in the Wet ‘n Wild parking lot on Wednesday.

Police were alerted to her in the car around 2 p.m. It later turned out that the dogs had been in the car since morning.

Officers tried “several times” to reach the car owner but were unable to reach him.

They smashed a window to remove the dogs.

“These dogs were very lucky to survive,” said RSPCA Inspector Ben Newman.

“The car was like an oven. If they were not found in time, they would no longer be alive.

“We are incredibly grateful to the public for reporting these cases to us so we can help the dogs in a timely manner.”

The RSPCA said it was one of two such incidents on Wednesday, in which a dog was also found in a car parked outside Sea World.

The outside temperature in the Gold Coast was about 28C on Wednesday, the organization said.

No charges were brought, but the dogs were confiscated by the RSPCA.
