Welcome to Spring Meteorology. That’s right, according to the numbers, spring has begun. Spring traditionally starts on March 20th – this year around 5:30am! That’s when the sun’s direct rays hit the Equator as they move towards the Northern Hemisphere. But spring meteorology is about temperature.

Normal temperatures now are around 50 degrees and 30 degrees. Every few days, they will increase to a solid level, and that is a big deal. The march towards daily average highs and overnight lows has officially begun. Step by step, inch by inch. By the numbers, we’re out of Winter.

Now, we all know that the icy breath of winter is far from gone. (“Winter’s Icy Breath”… somewhere, my college journalism professor just had a burp-LOL!) We know the deal isn’t over yet, although a look at the new expansion forecast will give you think so. I mean, look at these day and night numbers. Only Friday really has the beginning of March written all over.
I would say enjoy the gift we’ve been given in the short term. Catch a little Spring Fever, but stay in the moment. Don’t forget about the real, seasonal panorama.
