Charles Leclerc got off to a great start in the 2022 Formula 1 season Ferrari Driver who won the Bahrain Grand Prix and gave the Italy-based racing team a win after a 910-day drought. The Monegasque racer had also secured pole position on Saturday, which saw him start right at the start of the grid, with defending champion Max Verstappen right behind him in P2. However, Max Verstappen failed to complete the race along with teammate Sergio Perez due to suspected fuel issues.
Riding on soft tires throughout the race at the Bahrain International Circuit, Leclerc made sure to hold his lead until the end of the race, barring laps 17, 18 and 19 when Leclerc and Verstappen fought for the lead . Verstappen was able to pass Leclerc twice with notable slipstreaming, only for Leclerc to reclaim his lead with the use of DRS.
Leclerc won the opening race in Formula 1’s new ground-effect aerodynamic regime, edging past Sainz on a double Ferrari podium. Hamilton claimed a surprise podium thanks to Red Bull’s two DNFs.

Charles Leclerc brings Ferrari back to the top

Ferrari hasn’t exactly had the best run in recent seasons as the team hasn’t had a win since 2019 and a championship title since 2008. But Leclerc’s phenomenal performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix combined with the prowess of the dependable F1-75 seemed to give all Ferrari fans plenty of hope after his win.
The 24-year-old driver highlighted that the team could not have hoped for a better result considering Ferrari managed to secure a 1-2 podium finish with Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz just behind Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz , after getting a chance to win the time when Verstappen had to retire his car, previously running in P2.
The teams will face off again this weekend at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
