New York Mets utilityman Jeff McNeil made the most of a heckler from the San Francisco Giants with a home run at the best possible moment.
McNeil while Hitting a respectable .307 only had one home run in the season going into Monday night’s game against the Giants at Oracle Park. As such, San Francisco baseball fans were quite comfortable berating McNeil for his perceived lack of power.
While McNeil can hit the ball anywhere — sometimes considered a rarity in today’s game — his ability to hit the ball over the fence has been publicly questioned by a Giants fan.
So what happened next?
And that’s that. A quick reminder that these are professional baseball players, despite the fact that it was only McNeil’s second home run this year. They are all capable of hitting the ball far, far.
Mets: Jeff McNeil Silences Oracle Park Haters
Over the course of a long season, McNeil’s importance to this New York squad only grows. He can play just about any infield position, so he’s always available to step in if a player is injured.
McNeil can offer the kind of positional flexibility needed by a superutility player.
