Call of Duty: Warzone has had a cheating problem for years. Its initial announcement about Richocet Anti-Fraud Technology in October is supposed to be the answer to these problems. The months from the date of issue, however, it doesn’t seem to work well. As new methods continue to be tested, a recent implementation called Damage Shield could be helpful.
Based on Call of Duty Ricochet anti-cheat update this month, the group messed with actions that weren’t just banning accounts. This comes in the form of the aforementioned Damage Shield, which detects if a player is manipulating the game in real time. If the server determines that someone is cheating, the server will disable that player’s ability to damage others.
All legitimate players are protected from harm, opening cheaters will be killed for playing unfairly. The post makes it clear that the team is always monitoring encounters to make sure the shield isn’t being applied where it doesn’t belong. This Damage mitigation method is currently in beta, having been rolled out worldwide to all Warzone players.
Considering it only recently left beta, it remains to be seen how effective the post’s claims will be. As always, there’s still a chance that a hacker could figure out how to work around this method after a few weeks. After all, Warzone saw an increase in fraud even after Ricochet rolled out. It’s not as prominent as it used to be, but players are still finding a way around current anti-cheat technology.
