zenithVR, which still hasn’t fulfilled its Kickstarter promise to launch fully on PC, is already dropping functionality for older VR headsets — specifically the PS VR1 and Quest 1. Ramen VR says the need to extend those older devices to support, was “obstructive”. [its] Development” of patch 1.3 Skyward Summit.

“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue support for certain legacy headsets. We know that this news may have come as a disappointment to some of our players who have used these devices to experience the world of Zenith, and we apologize for that. Luckily, since Zenith is a cross-platform game, you can continue playing with your characters on modern hardware now or in the future. This means that starting with our upcoming 1.3 Skyward Summit patch, the new features and improvements will not be available for certain older devices. At 1.3 launch, these users will remain on minor 1.2.2 with their own dedicated shards and we will update this blog with the 1.3 launch date once it is confirmed.”

Ramen notes that the game will continue to run on the PS VR1, which will be stuck at 1.2.2 forever, while Quest 1 players will find they are unable to run the game at all after September 15th of this year.

“Currently, maintaining support for Quest 1 impacts the quality and stability of Quest 2 (approximately 98% of our Quest users have Quest 2 headsets) and we feel this is the best course of action to to best serve the vast majority of our users,” says the studio.

Note that players will not lose their accounts and can log in from other devices.
