Virginia Tech women’s basketball news and note ahead of Sunday’s clash vs No. 11 Tennessee

Traylor continues to deliver steady spark from the bench

Senior guard Kayana Traylor, who is on her first game at VT after three solid seasons at Purdue, has consistently enjoyed a doubling in scoring performance this season. She owns six games out of 10, placing second on the team behind center Elizabeth Kitley.

Traylor averaged 11.1 ppg, and fired 46% from the floor, including an impressive 15 for 32 from out of the arc.

She has the best assists to revenue ratio on the team with 3.8.

Cayla King is back in the lineup

After missing the UT-Martin game at the San Juan Shootout as a precaution, Cayla King returned to the lineup and made an immediate impact, beating her first shot attempt against the Badgers, a 3. point.

King played 37 minutes and contributed 10 points in the Hokies win.

The Hokies have done a great job in finding open players so far this season, supporting 59% of their FG. Tech averages just under 17 helpers per game with PG Georgia Amoore averaging 5.4 on the team. Aisha Sheppard is next with 3.1 and Kitley and Baines both average 2.4.

Kitley is set to join the elite group of 1,000 scorers

Elizabeth Kitley scored 13 points out of 1,000 for her career, a point she hopes to hit Sunday against Lady Vols. She is the Hokies leader in points, rebounds, blocks and FG% this season.

She’s a pre-season All-ACC athlete, has been included in the ESPN Top 25 and is on the Lisa Leslie Awards Watchlist, Wade Watchlist, and in the Woods Awards Top 50.

The free throw struggles continue

VT has left many points on the ring after missed shots. Technology converted 11 of the 20 attempts in Wednesday’s win in Wisconsin, and just 57% of the average came from the charity strip.

Traylor leads the Hokies with 16 free throws, while Kitley owns the most. Guards Sheppard and King have not missed this season on six and four occasions, respectively.
