Former Indian batter Ajay Jadeja said on Saturday he would not add Virat Kohli to his T20 squad because he felt India needed to make a call as to whether Virat would fit into their aggressive-playing T20 mindset.
Jadeja’s comments came ahead of the second T20I against England, which the visiting side won by 49 runs to lead the three-game streak 2-0 and will look for a clean win in the third T20I on Sunday.
India had included Virat Kohli while missing the in-form Deepak Hooda, who had struck against Ireland in the T20I for half a century. India was asked to bat first and with the help of Ravindra Jadeja’s 46 runs, the visitor set a target of 170 runs. Kohli again failed to hit runs by being dismissed cheaply after scoring a run.
“They were shown that there is another way to play the same game. You still score about 180 to 200 points. The game hasn’t changed, but you have a choice in how you want to play. I think Rohit Sharma will make that call,” Jadeja told Sony Sports.
“I think anyone leading the team only has two options. That’s how I see it. Either you stick with the way you’ve played, giving chances to young players, or you go back to your old team, which played before you started giving chances,” he added.

“Virat Kohli is a special player” – Ajay Jadeja
Ajay Jadeja also stated that management shouldn’t let him out just because he hasn’t scored in previous games for a century. Management shouldn’t even let him out because of how he’s scored runs in the past.
“Virat Kohli is a special player. If it hadn’t been Virat Kohli, he probably wouldn’t have played Test cricket as well,” Jadeja continued.
“You look at the numbers and you’re like, ‘Oh, he hasn’t scored a hundred goals in the last 8, 10 games.’ But you don’t skip him just because he didn’t score a hundred points. You don’t leave him out because of what he’s done in the past.
“Virat Kohli is a decision that has to be made. Do you want to play that solidity up front and then get runs at the back? It’s so old fashioned when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma beat at the top and you have players like Dhoni hitting 60 in the last 4 overs.
“It depends on who you want to play. I feel like the choice is yours, it’s hard to make. If I had to choose a T20 side, Virat probably won’t be there,” he added.
