“Players told me there was aggression…” – Mohammad Rizwan remembers the first meeting with Virat Kohli
During India’s match against Pakistan at the 2021 T20 World Cup, Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 79 helped Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets. After the game, then-India captain Virat Kohli went and spoke to Rizwan. Although Rizwan has never revealed what he was told, the 30-year-old described his first meeting with the Indian legend in a recent interview.
“It was the first time I met Kohli. The things I had heard about him…other players had told me that he…there’s aggression on the ground and things like that. But how he met me before and after the game… I say we’re a family. We cricketers are all family. When I say ‘our Virat Kohli’, I don’t think that’s wrong. Of course, when we step onto the ground, our priority is our star (points to the emblem of the Pakistani cricket team). We have to play for that. We don’t have a brotherhood or anything like that. But off the field, when we met Kohli and some of our players also met MS Dhoni, we encountered a lot of love and affection. Nothing was differentsaid Rizwan on the YouTube show Cricket Baaz with Waheed Khan.
