Vince McMahon admits he wants to beat Bob Costas

Back in 2001, Vince McMahon did an interview with Bob Costas for his HBO show, On profile.
At the time of the interview, the XFL was on its way out of the league and McMahon was asked about the league’s defeat so quickly. McMahon sometimes looked annoyed with Costas as they went back and forth.
In a new book, Tinderbox: HBO’s ruthless pursuit of new frontiers by Jim Miller, Bob Costas called the segment “good television”.
“It was streamed, and obviously because it was HBO, there were no ads,” said Costas. “I know it’s a good TV at the moment, but I’m not trying to hype it. Things can get sensational at times, but they start from a legitimate place.
“And the legal venue is that the XFL is trying to find a place in mainstream sports, on a mainstream network. It started with great interest. I thought they received a 10 rating for the first game, but in the end, they received the lowest rating of any primetime show in network television history.”
Vince McMahon even commented on the interview and admitted that if Costas were older, things would have become realistic.
McMahon recalls: “The other problem was that Bob was too pompous, weird. “The whole time he acted like he was above me and just used me to show how great he is. I’m sitting there getting really angry and starting to think, ‘I wish he wasn’t 5 feet tall and 140 pounds. If he is 6-5 and 295, he will deserve to be beaten by him. ‘ I was actually able to give them a great television. “
McMahon attempted to bring the XFL back in 2020. Although it managed to hit the second run, the COVID-19 pandemic brought the season to a halt. The federation went bankrupt and was later acquired by an investment group led by The Rock with $15 million. The league is currently slated to restart in the spring of 2023.
